Michael Fay joined Hale and Dorr LLP in 1975. A Senior Partner, he is Chairman of Private Client Department and previously served as the initial Co-Chairman of the Family Business Practice Group.

His practice is concentrated on the problems of individuals and families. He advises clients with respect to a wide range of issues relating to wills and trusts, estate planning, trust administration and fiduciary investments, charitable giving, life insurance, taxes and financial planning. He also serves as a professional trustee.

In addition, Mr. Fay deals with an array of matters relating to family-owned businesses, including business governance and control, financial structures, succession planning and its effects on family relations, and disposition of family business interests.

He is a 1971 summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After attending Oxford University as a Rotary Foundation Fellow, he received a J.D. in 1975 from Harvard Law School, where he was Vice Chairman of the Board of Student Advisors.

He has also been quoted in articles regarding estate planning and family business matters in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Financial Planning, U.S. Trust Company of New York's Private Business Advisor, The Boston Business Journal, and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, and has commented on such matters on National Public Radio.

He has lectured frequently regarding estate planning, related tax issues, and family business matters in seminars sponsored by the Family Firm Institute, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Association of Public Accountants.

Mr. Fay is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of Attorneys for Family Held Enterprises. He is the first lawyer ever elected to the Board of Directors of the Family Firm Institute, the nation's largest organization dedicated to assisting family businesses. Mr. Fay is also a member of the American, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations. He is the Secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston; a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council; Secretary of the Dartmouth Educational Association; an Overseer of the Catholic Student Center at Dartmouth; and a member of the Corporation of both Partners’

Deborah L. Anderson provides estate related tax and business planning services to clients to minimize the effects of income and estate taxes.

Her practice includes the drafting of wills, estate planning trusts and charitable trusts, as well as the administration of estates and trusts.

Ms. Anderson has written and lectured for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education program on the topics of trusts and administration of estates.

Prior to joining the firm in 1990, Ms. Anderson gained extensive experience with tax and financial planning for closely-held corporations and real estate partnerships. She has performed pro bono work through the Volunteer Lawyers Project for the Elderly.

Background

Brian has over fifteen years of experience in the fields of estate planning, probate and elder law. The first two years of his career were spent as an Estate Settlement Specialist in the Personal Trust Department of State Street Bank and Trust Company. He attained his Masters of Laws in Taxation from Boston University School of Law in 1990. A leader in the development of the specialization of elder law, Brian has served as Chair of two Committees of the American Bar Association, has been President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and has attained the status of Certified Elder Law Attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation, where he has served on its Grading Committee. Brian has had numerous articles published in national and Massachusetts publications on probate, taxation, estate planning and elder law, especially focusing on the relationship between taxation and long-term care planning. He regularly serves as a moderator and speaker on continuing legal education programs in the fields of probate, taxation, estate planning and elder law.

Attorney F. Keats Boyd, Jr., graduated cum laude from Holy Cross College, and received his doctorate in law from Stanford University. He is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts, the US District Court of Massachusetts, the US Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court of the United States.

His legal experience has earned him a listing in "Who's Who in American Law" and the highest professional and ethical rating in Martindale-Hubbell's National Directory of Lawyers. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the ABA Section on Probate and Real Property and the Boston Estate Planning Council. Mr. Boyd is also a speaker representative for the Education Forum.

Mr. Boyd has been in private practice for nearly twenty years and concentrates in Estate Planning and Administration, Corporate and Commercial Law. As a trustee for multi-million dollar trusts, Mr. Boyd routinely handles financial and investment matters for his clients.
