John D. Laflin, an Albuquerque attorney who specializes in estate planning and taxation, is listed in the publication of The Best Lawyers in America. He is the senior member of the law firm of Laflin, Lieuwen, Tucker, Pick & Heer, PA.

Background:

He received his BA, MBA and JD degrees from the University of Oklahoma and taught on the college level for five years, primarily at the University of Oklahoma. For eleven years he worked for Regional Counsel, Internal Revenue Service, where he was a Senior Trial Attorney at the time of his resignation in 1969.

Membership:

In addition to being a member of the New Mexico, Texas and American Bar Associations, Mr. Laflin is a Certified Public Accountant in the States of Oklahoma and Texas. He is a member of the New Mexico Society of CPA’s, as well as the American Institute of CPA’s, and is a Fellow of the American College and Trust and Estate Counsel. In 1995 he received the Meritorious Service Award given by the New Mexico Society of CPA’s and Distinguished Bar Service Award given by the New Mexico State Bar.

Activities:

Mr. Laflin is a frequent lecturer on tax planning and he is the author of "Estate Planning in New Mexico". He has taught estate planning courses at the University of New Mexico School of Law and at the UNM Anderson School of Management, in addition to presenting annual seminars for the New Mexico Bar Foundation and the New Mexico Society of CPA’s Foundation for Education and Research on estate planning. He is a New Mexico Board Certified Attorney in Estate Planning, Trusts and Probate.

Robert W. Ikard, B.B.A., J.D., is licensed to practice law in the State of New Mexico, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico and the United States Court of Appeals the Tenth Circuit. He currently practices law from his offices in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

He received his Bachelor of Business Administration, B.B.A. from St. Edward’s University with the distinction Magna Cum Laude, his Juris Doctor, J.D. from the University of Tulsa School of Law, and did graduate work in Taxation at Southern Methodist University School of Law in the Masters of Law in Taxation Program.

Mr. Ikard is a former Director of Goodwill Industries of Southern New Mexico, Inc., and is a Member of the American Bar Association Sections of Taxation and Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law, and Business Law. He is a Member of the State Bar of New Mexico Real Property, Probate, and Trust Section and the State Bar of New Mexico Section on Taxation. He is a Member of the El Paso, Texas and Southern New Mexico Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, Financial Planning Section.

He formerly served as Vice President of the Dona Ana County Bar Association and currently serves on the Southern New Mexico Estate Planning Council and the Memorial Medical Center Foundation Professional Advisory Committee.

He is a frequent speaker at Estate and Financial Planning programs, such as the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and Memorial Medical Center Seminar "Will You Be Ready to Retire" Program and the "Financial Planning Seminar" Charitable Giving and Financial Planning Program sponsored by the Diocese of Las Cruces Foundation and the Retirement and Estate Planning Class.

He has authored numerous articles which have been published on the topics of Estate Planning and Taxation and currently writes columns for Southwest Senior and Agua Viva monthly publications on the topics of Taxation and Estate Planning.

Gerald E. Bischoff is a director and shareholder in the law firm of Dubois, Cooksey, Bischoff & Ferreri, P.A., in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has been practicing law for twenty-four (24) years.

Fletcher R. Catron practices law with the firm of Catron, Catron & Pottow, P.A., in Santa Fe. He is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of New Mexico School of Law and has been in the general practice of law since 1973.

Mr. Catron's largest single area of practice is in estate planning, trusts and probate.

He is past chairman of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the State Bar of New Mexico (1997-98) and is a board member of the Elder Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico. He is past president of the Bar Association of the First Judicial District and the Estate Planning Council of Santa Fe and served as co-chairman of the committee that obtained adoption by the New Mexico State Legislature of the Uniform Health-Care Decisions Act and the 1997 amendments to that Act.

Mr. Catron has served as a member of the Probate Forms Committee of the New Mexico Supreme Court and is a member of other committees reviewing amendments to the New Mexico Probate Code and other statutes relating to estate planning and trusts. Mr. Catron is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and is a member of the State Bar Association of New Mexico, the American Bar Association, and the Bar Association of the First Judicial District.
